Yad Vasim Holocaust Museum, Israel

Holocaust Museum, Israel   By Sachi Ghosh Dastidar             In the summer of 2023, we visited a very important historical museum called Holocaust Museum. As many in the Indian Subcontinent, including many in the United States, have been trying for a similar museum dedicated to Indian Partition and subsequent genocide that took millions of lives and cleansed tens of millions from their ancestral home and land. One can easily spend a day or more located in Jerusalem to realize the racism against Jewish peoples for no reason except one’s inhuman inferiority complex.             The museum is divided into many strictures, and research centers. Scores of young students come here to learn about the past history and oppression.             There is restriction on picture taking indoor, so all the pictures a...

Museum of Holy Prophets At Istanbul, Turkey By Sachi G. Dastidar             During our visit to Istanbul, Turkey in the summer of 2023, we visited one of most important museums containing artifacts of many saints and prophets and preachers, including Prophet Mohammed. Rulers of Ottoman Empire collected those items that now attracts thousands of tourists every day. We were told that this was the most visited museum in Turkey. I am sure this is very true, as we visited many other museums in the city.             There is now word to express our tributes to those in display.             Istanbul is a remarkable and thriving city. Even at 2 am or 3 am in the morning many streets and areas thrive with tourists and local residents enjoying life, at times even with their babies.      ...

Visiting Turkey-Controlled Partitioned North Cyprus By Sachi G. Dastidar             In the summer of 2023 when we visited Cyprus, we took a trip to its partitioned Turkic-Islamic North Cyprus. This was a one-of-a-kind experience coming from British-created Partition of India in 1947.             The first hurdle to visit the North has been relaxed a bit as the border has been opened in the partitioned City of Nicosia. We walked to the border crossing from hotel, which was in the downtown of the former united city. The independent part was thriving, but not so much for the partitioned north.             We headed for the port-city of Kyrenia in the north of the Island for which we had to walk almost a mile through the old city to the taxi stand. On this side there was no writing in Greek, and most of the places f...

Bethlehem and Jericho, Palestine

Bethlehem and Jericho, Palestine   By Sachi Ghosh Dastidar             In the summer of 2023, we visited a very important historical and theological places including Bethlehem, the Birthplace of Jesus Christ. A guided walking tour took us through various places with the life of Jesus Christ. Because of its religious and historical importance there were long lines to get into many quarters, but everyone waited with pleasure.             Jericho has now become a tourist attraction as a researcher discovered a “city” that was built several thousands of years before Christ. Jericho now calls herself as the “Oldest City of the World.”             Our local guide was a Christian lady living in Bethlehem, led by a Jewish guide for both cities.   Map of Israel and Palestine Here are some pictures of ...
