In the summer of 2023, we visited Istanbul, Turkey. Our earlier plan of visiting other cities and coast area were of Turkey was modified for time constraint. We flew in from Israel, but a minor aircraft problem took half a day of our vacation. Istanbul is a unique city of the world connecting the continents of Asia and Europe. Moreover, it is also a place of Ottoman Empire who ruled over 1,000 years bringing Islam into Asia, Africa and Europe under an empire, and creating beautiful structures of mosques and palaces. In Asia they also colonized Arabia, founder of Islam, and were able to bring important artifacts from that land. Ironically, they themselves were from Central Asia. Central Asians and Mongolians were the first to ride horse which was able to militarize the world.

Istanbul is a remarkable and thriving city. Even at 2 am or 3 am in the morning many streets and areas thrive with tourists and local residents enjoying life, at times even with their babies.

The city is heavily mixed with diverse population, religious and secular, diverse food, drink and liquor were available everywhere. It has also developed good public transportation, including water transportation.

We took several tours to visit the ancient parts of the city, as well as places on both sides of the bay.
