Protest Against Anti-Indigenous Hindu Pogrom in Bangladesh Starting on August 5, 2024, after Removal of Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina

Sabyasachi Ghosh Dastidar

There were thousands of demonstrations around the world, including United States of America, supported by diverse groups. It was painful to see the oppression, including cold-blooded killing of indigenous minorities because they have retained their thousands of years of pluralistic, tolerant, pacifist tradition, called Sanatani or British-introduced Hindu faith.

There are writeups in papers that foreign powers were involved in ousting the Prime Minister, but it is hard to figure out why pre-Islam original inhabitants of the nation are being attacked and killed in cold blood. And, why the Western democracies are not protesting, when they are fighting for Ukraine, Israel or Palestine. Why no Muslim-majority nation has protested for life of pre-Islam faith and tradition. Huge numbers of talented Hindu teachers and professors have been forced to resign. Why? For whose interest?

Here is a small report with some pictures of protest in New York City:

Demonstration at the United Nations, New York City, U.S.A. on Friday, August 8, 2024

We have received tons of pictures of atrocities and destruction of Hindu shrines, destruction of deities and attack on minority individuals. Those are too painful to share. Here is a picture of destruction of deity of the Mother.

Bangladesh’s indigenous Hindu minority population declined through pogroms and genocides from one-third of the population before 1947 partition to barely 6% now in the world’s 5th most populous nation. We lost about 50 million minorities till 2001 Census, and possibly 60 million missing by now. We demand their return back to their homeland.

I am shocked that not a single Muslim-majority nation has protested these atrocities for the past 75 years, since Noakhali atrocities in 1946 during British rule, and after that since 1947 partition.

Recipients are: Sri (Mr.) Rabin Ghosh, Lawyer; Sri Gopal Chandra Banik, Senior Citizen without support, Srimati (Ms.) Priya Rani Biswas for education; Srimati Diya Rani Haldar for education, Srimati Anjali Rani Sarkar for work, Sri Bappi Mondol for sraddho last rites, Srimati Megha Rani Sarkar for education, Srimati Bithika Rani Ghosh for wedding, Srimati Supriya Rani Das for home repair, Srimati Kabita Rani Mandal for medical treatment, and Srimati Popi Rani Biswas for education. I know you are big helpers for the oppressed, that’s why it is a great honor to share this with you. If you want to help the oppressed during this difficult time, please contact any of the monks, as you have done before.

Without any request I received a donation from Srimati Aruna Baskota, a nonaffluent Nepali-American to help the oppressed. You will be happy to know that the monk celebrated Saraswati Puja of Goddess of Learning on February 1, 2025, with a city tour, and attended by thousands of citizens.
