On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Indian Subcontinent Partition Documentation Project (ISPaD) held its annual meeting at the Partition Centers in Queens, New York City in the midst of several fall festivals in New York starting at 10:30 am. A diverse group of people with roots in partitioned India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as well as roots in other nations, including partitioned Ireland, and Asia took part in their documental, emotional, painful and optimistic narratives. Some of the speakers were: Prof. Dr. Dwijen Bhattacharjea who spoke on Bangladesh, Ms. Harmain Ahmer spoke on Biharis after Bangladesh independence from Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Alireza Ibrahimi spoke on Middle East, Prof. Dr. Tom Lilly spoke on Ireland, Mr. Shuvo Ghosh Dastidar spoke on minorities in East Pakistan / Bangladesh since 1947 partition, Mr. Zafar Sahito, Esq. spoke on Sindhu Desh of the Subcontinent, now in Pakistan, from where the words India and Hindu evolved. In addition, Mr. Sukriti Mandal and Mr. Khurshedul Islam, along with a few others presented short deliberations.

The forum was moderated by the eminent scholar Ms. Geeta Bhat, including the Q&A session during and after the end of presentations.

Partition Center’s 2024 Journal was released by Prof. Dr. Tom Lilly. Journal contains 2023 Annual Report and papers on the effects of British-created 1947 racist-type Indian partition, current plight of indigenous minorities in Bangladesh, and effects on a non-native Bihari Muslim minority of 1971 Pakistan’s partition in its Muslim-majority areas and independence of Bangladesh, which is available at the Partition Center office in New York.

The seminar forum ended with a social hour with delicious food made by Mrs. Sumedha Jana Dastidar. The sunny day gave all good atmosphere to talk about the tough subject censored by the oppressed East and the colonial West.

Here are some of the pictures and videos:
