A Day of Remembrance, A Call to Action

“National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism

‌ June 23 is the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism—a solemn anniversary marking the horrific bombing of Air India Flight 182 in 1985, where 329 innocent lives were lost, most of them Canadians. It remains the deadliest act of terrorism in Canadian history, carried out by Khalistani extremists.

This day is not only a time to mourn—it is a time to remember, to reflect, and to act.

The trauma of that day continues to live on—not just in the hearts of the families who lost loved ones, but in the chilling reality that the ideology behind the attack still exists in Canada today. Despite two independent Canadian public inquiries that concluded unequivocally that the bombing was carried out by Khalistani extremists, there are now renewed demands for another inquiry—fueled by Khalistani conspiracy theories and political agendas.

We cannot stay silent.

➡️ Reach out to your elected officials—your Member of Parliament, MPP/MLA, municipal councillor, mayor, and school board trustee.
➡️ Ask them to issue a public statement acknowledging this day and affirming the truth behind the tragedy.
➡️ Remind them that this is not just about the past—it’s about defending truth, memory, and justice today.

🙏 Attend a memorial ceremony or community vigil on June 23 if one is organized in your area. Stand in solidarity with the victims and send a clear message that terrorism and its glorification have no place in our society.

Let us honour the lives lost—not with silence, but with action”

Namaste,

For forty years, we have carried their names. For forty years, we have held space for the 331 who were stolen from us on June 23, 1985 by Khalistani bombers. In Hindu tradition, we offer these ancient words—Om Shanti—as both prayer and promise; in the hope that those we lost ultimately found the peace that was denied to them in their final moments.

This sacred remembrance marks not just their deaths but honours the fullness of their lives. We remember the children who will never grow old, the parents who never returned home, and their hopes and dreams that were shattered, mid-flight, over the Atlantic.

In our tradition, the departed live on in our devotion to them. And so, through the voices of the bereaved, the quiet of memorials, the pages of books, and the testimony of time—we remember.

Thank you for this timely and excellent work (although this can be improved further by professional editing and condensing of the video clips) to remind us all & especially, those who lost their loved ones and friends, on this Air India Flight on this infamous day. And it is hard to forget the subsequent undermining & blocking of due investigation of this ‘biggest mass murder in Canadian history’ (CBC) due to the brazen racism of the then prominent Canadian media (excepting Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, CBC); Canadian politicians (excepting Parick Brown, Stephen Harper, Paul Martin); and, the total cover up of CSIS (whose disgraceful failure and racist attitude helped the Khalisani Sikhs succeeding in the largest act of air terrorism before 9/11). The Globe and Mail’s prominent editorial demanded a public inquiry on the 10th anniversary of this day & of course, long before that there was the book detailing the horror and the terror written by Bharati Mukherjee and her spouse.

40 Years Since the Kanishka Bombing: National Press Club event in Washington DC calls Out Canada’s Role in Enabling Khalistani Terror

“329 innocent lives — including 268 Canadian citizens — were lost. Yet Canada refused to act. This cannot be forgotten." On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 the National Press Club in Washington, DC, hosted a searing and timely congressional-style briefing titled: “40 Years Since the Kanishka Bombing: Lessons from the Largest Terror Attack in North America Before 9/11.”

The event commemorated the June 23, 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182, when 329 passengers, including 268 Canadian citizens, were murdered in a Pakistani-backed Khalistani terror plot that originated from Canadian soil.

“By holding the Khalistan cult terrorists accountable—and under tabs in 1985—the FBI was able to prevent a major terror attack and assassination of then visiting Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi,” said Puneet Sahani, a Khalistan researcher, who outlined how Pakistan-sponsored extremism infiltrated Canada as early as the 1980s.

“While the U.S. took action, Canada refused to heed the warnings—resulting in the largest terror attack in North America prior to 9/11,” Sahani said. He also exposed how the Khalistan movement uses immigration systems in the West. “This is a giant immigration scam. Khalistani cult members incite young Sikhs in India to declare themselves as Khalistanis and come to the US and Canada seeking asylum… for a fee. The UK has figured it out and has clamped down on this fraud. Canada and the U.S. are still letting this happen.” He continued, “The US lost the war in Afghanistan because Pakistan became the safe haven for the Taliban. Canada has become the Pakistan of the West. It has become the safe haven for Khalistani terrorism.”

Veteran journalist Terry Milewski, who has long covered the Khalistani movement, gave a blunt assessment of Pakistan’s direct support:

“Without Pakistan to provide a safe haven, medical care, training, a place to hang, the Khalistan movement would never have been able to launch the armed insurgency which came across that very border from Pakistan in the 1980s and early 90s.”

Milewski also exposed how truth is being buried under pressure. “The letter was organized to make it seem that the story was wrong, without showing a shred of evidence, and on that basis—that is to say, no basis at all—they continue… still fighting to obscure the truth. That’s a fundamental mission: to make sure that their disinformation prevails and that the truth does not.”

He described the broader battle as one not just of armed insurgency or statecraft, but of narrative warfare, disinformation, and the silencing of truth through pseudo-academic outrage and legal intimidation.

“When the Kanishka Terror Attack happened, the then Canadian Prime Minister—Brian Mulroney—called the Indian Prime Minister to mourn India’s loss,” said Poonam Sharma, who moderated the event. “Even though 268 of the 329 murdered in the Kanishka bombings were Canadians, it took 20 years for the Canadian government to acknowledge that this was a terror attack on Canadians.” Sanjay Lazar, who lost loved ones in the bombing, delivered an emotional appeal for truth, accountability, and action—so that no community suffers in silence again.

The event was held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and featured speakers Sanjay Lazar (victim), Puneet Sahani (Khalistan scholar), Terry Milewski (senior Canadian journalist), and moderator Poonam Sharma (journalist).

The briefing, which had testimonies from 3 other survivor families along with Sanjay Lazar, was hosted by HinduACTion as part of its ongoing commitment to educating policymakers and the public on American national security threats and standing for peace and justice.
